What does Hipster mean?
Hipsters are group of men and women in their 20's and 30's that value independent thinking, appreciation for indie-rock and counter-culture. Although "hipsterism" is a state of mind, many people have begun to express this through fashion.
Unlike my previous post on Preppy fashion, "hipsters" are more into everyday street wear and can be seen to be very casual. It is the complete opposite of the clean-cut look and tends to be more of the messy and grungy rock star look. Personally, I believe that the hipster fashion is a mix between denim, casual wear coupled with accessories. Such accessories include piercings, tattoos and old-school sunglasses like the wayfarers, a celebrity that comes to mind is Joel and Benji Madden.
When we hear the word hipster, we automatically think of individuals that like to think they are disconnected from everyday society norms and like to express their individualism by wearing clothing that is considered different. However, I believe that the hipster fashion is now embedded into our culture and that we should learn to accept the unique looks individuals portray.
